Jeffreys Bay

Jeffreys Bay or ‘J-Bay’ as the locals call it, is a famous town along the south coast of S.A. between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, and most well known for it’s surfing. There is a huge surf competition held here every year, and is a world-renowned spot to catch a wave. Having already surfed in Spain and Morocco, I was keen to test my luck on the waves here, but for the one day that I had here, the weather sadly did not cooperate. What I had expected to be hot weather for the South African summer was anything but while I was there. It had been cool and rainy for the past while, and the surf while I was there was essentially non-existent. So instead, I found a window of sunshine and went for a walk along the quiet beach to sunbathe and check out the shells until the rain started up again.

When visiting South Africa, a stop in J-Bay to surf or enjoy the laid back lifestyle is a nice change of pace. There are other places to surf along the coast, but this is by far one of the best places for it. People come for a couple days, and end up staying months.
