Hvar

Hvar Town

The city of Hvar is by the far the most well known city on the island. Easily accessible by ferry from Split, Hvar is a relatively quick and easy trip to get off the mainland of Croatia, to see some of what the beautiful islands of Croatia have to offer. It was also our first (and only) stop on The Yacht Week that we stayed docked for more than one night, and was certainly worth the stay.

We arrived on this island with high expectations, and they were fully exceeded. With TYW, we actually moored in the port of Palmizana, just across the way from the main island, but after an ~30 minute water ferry to the mainland, we found this beautiful gem. The town was white washed, lined with historical cobblestone streets, clear blue water, and delicious restaurants serving up the typical ‘Dalmatian’ fare native to Croatia.

Our first evening spent in Hvar was spent eating and drinking some delicious foods, and watching the sunset (and enjoying the party) at Hula Hula beach bar. This bar is 100% worth a stop, day or night. Located right on the beach with loungers, a bar, and beats always bumping, after watching the sunset and having a ‘few’ drinks, it set us up for a great evening out in the city, pub hopping and wandering the streets to find some more incredible viewpoints. St. Stephens square in the heart of Hvar has a beautiful cathedral, bell tower, and is in the centre of cultural and social life in the town. Its also the largest old square in all of Dalmatia. We found a quaint wine/cocktail bar up the street from this with a beautiful view of the square and tower. Wander the streets, and find some hidden gems like we did to really make the trip and time in Hvar your own.

Palmizana

Set in the Palminski islands, the port of Palmizana lies. This is where TYW was docked for 2 nights, and was a nice reprieve from the busy town of Hvar. Here you can enjoy a relaxing beach day, enjoy water sports, or as we did, head to Laganini Beach club. We enjoyed the day on a beautiful bay absorbing the heat of the sun in the bay of Vinogradisce before grabbing Mimosas at the bar to kickstart our Riviera Chic party that TYW was throwing later that afternoon at the Carpe Diem Beach Club.

Speaking of Carpe Diem, this place is something else. Though typically a beach club that opens late in the evening, TYW had reserved the entire spot for just us early that evening, and was by far my favourite hosted event throughout the week. We all were dressed to the nines in our ‘Riviera’ white and blues, dancing the evening away to great music and drinks before heading back into Hvar for dinner and other festivities to finish the evening off on the main island before setting sail to our next stop, Bol, early the next morning.
